Our piercings are done using medical-grade ear piercing supplies from Blomdahl. Using a unique and hygienic method, they are an innovator and market leader in hygienic ear piercings.

We use a sterile, single-use cartridge with every piercing. Safety and cleanliness are our priorities, making this the preferred technique.

By design, the initial earrings used to pierce the ear lobes have a longer and thicker post vs other earrings. This allows the hole to remain “airy” for optimal healing, and prevents skin damage and irritation once earrings are able to be switched out.

Minimum age is two months old, and they must have had their first set of routine immunizations prior. Adults are also able to schedule appointments for ear lobe piercings.

No, you do not have to be a patient at Families First Pediatrics.

Currently, we are only offering ear lobe piercings. This means a first, second, or third hole for most patients, depending on the size of the individual ear lobe.

We recommended avoiding swimming or completely submerging your ears underwater for approximately four weeks.

There is no required waiting time, but the longer you avoid swimming in a pool, lake, ocean, etc., the better.

Anytime the ears get wet (after swimming or bathing), try to clean them with the sterile aftercare cleansing swabs or spray, then carefully dry them by gently patting them with a towel.

Blomdahl earrings are nickel-free and made from medical-grade titanium or plastic, making this a suitable option for anyone, even those with metal allergies. This is the same metal used in joint replacements.
Earrings should not be switched out before a minimum of 6 weeks from the initial piercing date. However, we strongly encourage waiting until 10-12 weeks. Waiting longer decreases the likelihood of irritation occurring from changing earrings versus switching them out after six weeks. If you switch them out earlier and mild irritation occurs, putting the starter earring set back in for another 4-6 weeks is recommended.
The starter earring included with all piercing packages has a plastic, flat back, so nothing pokes into the side of the head when lying down. It is not a screw on the back, but it’s tough to remove without intentionally trying. If, for whatever reason, the earring back falls off, you can contact our office for a replacement.

Redness and swelling. Mild redness or swelling can be expected within the first 24 hours.  Anything lasting longer than this could be cause for concern.

Contact FFP and ask to speak to a nurse if any of the following symptoms occur:

  • Pain
  • Rash
  • Discharge from the ear piercing.
  • Hard bump along the front or back of the ear, at the piercing site.
