Riverton Counseling Therapy

Kirstin Peterson, CSW

Kirstin Peterson

About Kirstin:

Kirstin attended Utah State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Social Work, before earning a Master of Social Work from the University of Utah only a year later. More than a quick study and a hard worker, Kirstin also enjoys Utah’s natural landscapes—especially the sunsets, the mountains, the impressive collection of natural parks, and the world famous ski and snowboard season.

Kirstin is trained and experienced in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy, and family therapy. She has a special passion for working with kids and young adults and helping them navigate a turbulent time of life. Kirstin’s goal is to help patients identify what they are able to control in their environment and then provide tools they can use in their everyday lives. Her favorite part of the job is when clients no longer need her.

When she’s not at work, you might find Kirstin elbow deep in clay at the pottery wheel, practicing Spanish conjugation, enjoying spicy Cajun chicken pasta, or doing little things to improve her life and the lives of people around her.

Parent Feedback

We have been with Megan McDowell at Families first since my son’s 2 week newborn check up 3 years ago. She is an amazing, compassionate provider who really listens to all of my concerns with my children’s health. On a personal level, Megan was actually the one who helped me recognize that I may be dealing with postpartum depression after the birth of my son. She has been cheering me on ever since, and always ends each appointment by telling me that I am doing a great job with my kids. I cannot recommend her or families first enough. We have gotten to interact with other providers during after hours or sick visits and everyone has been amazing. We also take our kids to families first dental and they are so great and so patient with my kids!
