At Families First Orthodontics we are leaders in orthodontic/orthognathic surgery treatments. We work closely with the finest surgeons in the valley and have successfully treated hundreds of combined orthodontic/orthognathic surgery cases. The results of oral surgery can truly be life-changing.

A combined orthodontic/orthognathic surgery case is typically treated as follows:

  • A patient is evaluated by the orthodontist to determine if their case can be treated with orthodontics alone, or if oral surgery will also be required.
  • If surgery is needed, a treatment plan is made, and braces are placed.
  • Depending on the level of pre-surgical preparation required, after approximately 6-12 months in braces, surgery is performed by an oral surgeon.
  • After surgery, the patient will be monitored by the oral surgeon for several weeks.
  • The patient then returns to our office where orthodontic treatment continues for approximately another 6-12 months after surgery.

Orthognathic surgery is often intimidating, the process is simple and patients often recover within a week. Many report surgery being less painful than anticipated. Our orthodontist works closely with the oral surgeon to ensure the combined treatment is as simple and comfortable as possible
